Wholesale Nursery Crop Trainee Supervisor
Located in the West Midlands this outstanding grower produces and supplies horticultural wholesale stock to the UK landscape and amenity market. They are currently looking for a commercially minded horticulturist to take on a growing role within the container department. This is a hands-on role and will involve some time working alone, some supervising a small team of staff, and also working as part of a larger team within the potting operation depending on the time of year. Working within the nurseries container team maintaining the husbandry requirements of the containerised crop whilst assisting with the potting operation as required.
Main Duties & responsibilities:
Irrigation of container crop, including hand watering and use of automatic irrigation.
Crop trimming and spacing as required.
Weed control in cropped and non-cropped areas.
Bed preparation for potting.
Supervision of staff as required.
Good plant knowledge
Ability to work both independently and in a team.
Ability to learn quickly and manage workload in a cooperative and sometimes demanding environment.
A self-motivated individual with the ability to motivate others.
A positive attitude with an open minded flexible approach.
Areas for Development:
An understanding of pest and disease incidence.
Showing how, leadership skills
Plant identification and cultural awareness/requirements
Understanding of irrigation equipment and plant requirements.
FEPA PA1 & PA6 sprayer training
Normal working hours are 39 per week.
Overtime will be required to fulfil weekend rotas.
Salary dependant on experience, excellent opportunity for the right person.
