Owing to an internal promotion, Chelsea Physic Garden seeks a highly skilled and motivated Gardener/Propagation Manager. The ideal candidate will have a level 2 or 3 horticultural qualification and have gained in depth experience within an historic or botanic garden.
The successful candidate will be assisting in the maintenance of an intensively cultivated botanical garden, working in all parts and on all aspects of the Garden’s horticultural work with other members of staff, trainees, interns and volunteers. The propagation aspect of the role takes responsibility for the day to day management of the annual and ongoing propagation programme. From seeds and cuttings you will produce up to 12,000 quality plants a year from a small space. You will need to be very organised, efficient and resourceful.
The role will be split approximately 60% gardening and 40% Propagation Management.
The successful candidate will be joining a friendly, knowledgeable and hard-working team and will gain experience of a wide range of ethno botanic, unusual, tropical and rare plants.
This is a full-time role, working with a team of 4 gardeners, 2 trainees and up to 30 volunteers.
