A very attractive opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener on a beautiful private estate in West Dorset. The position would suit an experienced and skilled gardener with demonstrable garden management experience, i.e. Sole Gardener or supervisory. The position is offered particularly to couples as some part-time housekeeping work is available as paid on an hourly basis, though single Sole Gardeners are also encouraged to apply. The traditional English country garden property encompasses approximately three acres and is surrounded by fields on all sides. Located on the outskirts of a small rural village, the garden itself comprises of tall yew and laurel hedges, mature trees, rose beds, herbaceous borders, a rockery, two greenhouses and a small naturally-fed pond. The garden is on a small hillside with manicured lawns and an informal paddock. A vegetable plot and fruit cage will need tending to by the successful applicant, as will climbing wisteria on the walls of the main house. The property is located in an idyllic and picturesque village, just six miles north of the Dorset coastline. Applicants should have experience of the above, be confident and skilled in pruning methods, i.e. of wisteria and roses, and be physically fit with good horticultural knowledge and plant identification skills. The ideal candidate will possess an academic horticultural qualification, well-rounded experience in a private estate setting, and will be willing to take ownership of a varied and attractive English country garden. Applicants should hold spray tickets (PA1/PA6) however these may be gained at a later date if necessary. A chainsaw licence would be beneficial, and experience with a wide range of gardening machinery essential. Candidates should be willing and able to undertake the general garden handyman duties required of a Sole Gardener, and of the estate security when the owners are away. A full driving licence is required as the property is located in a rural setting. A stable has been newly converted into a one bedroom flat on site; suitable for a single person or couple. Applicants should be non-smokers and animal lovers (dog and cat). Rent, Council tax and bills are all included as part of this generous position offering.
