The Nursery

The nursery grows about 300 varieties of trees in a range of sizes from 7L to 230L pots.  In the winter we supply bare root trees and hedging.

Work involves potting, caning, tying in the winter and spring.  Irrigation and weed control in the summer and autumn.  Many customers come to the nursery to select and collect. Many new customers find us through our online shop www.chewvalleytrees.co.uk to supply them we also dispatch over most of southern England.  Good plant identification skills and knowledge of trees and shrubs is an important attribute.

Landscaping

We plant trees of all sizes from whips to semi mature we also plant shrub borders and hedges.  To do this we need to prepare the ground by rotavating, incorporating compost and raking to a level surface.  This is also necessary for turf laying and grass seeding.

We are responsible for follow up maintenance on many of the sites and this requires us to mow grass and weed shrub borders.  This often involves the spraying of herbicides.

We work for private estates and in domestic gardens, we also work for construction companies and public utilities mainly within 50 miles of Chew Magna but it can be farther.  A clean driving licence is essential. Previous experience of use and care of mowers and strimmers will be an advantage as will PA1 & PA6 certificates.

Jobs are usually undertaken in teams of two, though at times you may have to work alone.  The teams are not fixed and are rotated to utilise the range of skills in the company.  Contracts can take as little as a few hours to several months for the most complex.
