Senior Contracts Manager

Our Client based on the Hertfordshire Buckinghamshire border, have become leading landscape and garden designers and contractors, working throughout London, Central England and the South East. The business has seen steady growth year on year, with an impressive repeat client list contributing to the current £2 million turnover. They are now looking for a Senior Contracts Manager who will be based in head office but also visiting sites and clients as appropriate and necessary.



  • Effectively managing the design build department’s construction function to ensure best practices are followed, costs are controlled and client satisfaction is maximised
  • Ensure that the department increases revenue generation and contribution to the company’s operating profit as well as growing the value added to the company
  • Work effectively as part of the senior management team and take a “whole company” perspective to managing issues
  • Contracts management: prepare project programmes and monitor progress
  • Organise resources for new contracts, including materials, labour and subcontractors
  • Liaise with principal contractors
  • Visit sites and direct operations on site
  • Day-to-day office tasks associated with site management and attending meetings
  • Direct the contracts construction teams and staff
  • Implement and manage H&S policy including resources and training
  • Cost planning and management: complete budgets at an early stage in the project to ensure that client expectation in terms of cost is effectively managed.
  • Prepare professional and thorough quotations for construction to meet the programme
  • Liaise with the head of design to ensure that the correct information is prepared to allow this
  • Monitor costs during construction
  • Complete valuations and final account negotiations; preparing and issuing invoices
  • Credit control (D&B)
  • Day to day business management including insurance, VAT, banking and payroll monitoring.
  • Recruit staff for the department’s construction process including contracts management
  • Training and other HR matters
  • Meet with client or prospective clients as appropriate
  • Clients should be regularly reviewed to ensure levels of satisfaction are maintained to a high level


Person Specification

  • Experience in top end of the industry
  • Flexible attitude to work – ‘get the job done’ rather than 9-5
  • Ability to delegate and work under pressure
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • 10 years’ at management level in landscape industry
  • Full clean UK Driving licence
  • Introduction and or managing H&S (ROLO / NEBOSH / IOSH)
  • HND or similar in hard or soft landscape construction (desirable)
  • Degree in associated subject (desirable)
  • Other qualification in horticulture (desirable)
