Full time assistant head gardener
A privately owned 22 acre property in the Surrey Hills is seeking an assistant head gardener, which will be a new position.
Having been derelict when the current owners purchased it, the property is gradually being restored and converted to an arboretum, with extensive new planting of indigenous and specimen trees.
There is a relatively small formal garden, vegetable and fruit cages and a large computer controlled greenhouse. There is a significant acreage under grass, which needs mowing regularly.
The job will be hands on working with the owners and a small team of full-time and part-time colleagues.
Good plant and tree knowledge will be essential and horticultural qualifications very desirable. Chain saw and spraying certificates will be particularly valuable. Experience with an extensive range of garden machinery ranging from lawn mowers to mechanical diggers will also be valuable.
The owners have high ambitions for the continued development of the woodland garden and are seeking someone who will enjoy the journey with them.
The salary will be in the region of £30,000 with pension on top, depending on experience and qualifications. Local accommodation could be available by arrangement.
