Head of Parks & Gardens role – Merseyside – start asap - £30,000 - £35,000 gpa

(38851)  A client of Greycoat Lumleys Northern office is looking to recruit a Head of Parks & Gardens to head up a small team on a large formal country estate.  The estate consists of a private formal family residence, the original stately home building which is now mostly used for events and a safari park.

The role is a new position for the estate and the right candidate will be enrolled to head up both the existing Gardens team (Head Gardener, 2 Gardeners and a Parks Maintenance Assistant) and the existing Woodland team (Head Forester, 2 Foresters and a Parks Maintenance Assistant) and bring them together to form a cohesive team to operate through the entire estate. 

Overall duties and responsibilities will include:

To lead the Parks & Gardens team to undertake the grounds, horticultural and arboricultural maintenance to specified and agreed standards and requirements by the client

To be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and health & safety of the team whilst at work and ensuring that all staff are properly deployed, trained and equipped.

To be responsible for all the forests, gardens and grounds on the estate. Also responsible for all lawns, both formal and informal, and all hedges.

Lead and motivate the Parks & Gardens team ensuring all activities are conducted in a professional and efficient manner.

Daily supervision and management of the Parks & Gardens team; this will include allocating tasks and ensuring that work standards are maintained.

Produce and deliver annual budgets with a mind to efficiency and cost control.

Manage all day-to-day aspects of excellent garden presentation, forestry maintenance and cyclical park and gardens maintenance.

Assist in the development of a long-term strategy for the parks and gardens.

Ensure that Tree Inspections are completed once every six months.

Be responsible for fencing inspections and stock control.

Ensure that garden and grounds machinery and tools are maintained regularly and kept in good and safe working order.

Depending on the experience of the candidate, you will be expected to be hands-on in either horticulture or arboriculture

Essential skills:  Highly experience and qualified with a wide range of skills and techniques in either horticulture or arboriculture.  Proficient in use of a wide range of machinery.  Full driving licence and trailer test.  Previous experience in people management and project delivery.  Good people skills. Friendly and positive attitude. Good team player. IT literate.

This is a live out role ideally suited to a locally based candidate – no accommodation is provided

Working hours will be averaging 40 hours per week working normally working Monday to Friday although you may be required to work some weekends and bank holidays with prior arrangement.

Salary in the region of £30,000 to £35,000 gpa
