GROUNDS AND GARDENING TEAM MEMBERS

We provide housing of all different types of customers who live in our almost 30,000 properties. With more than 900 colleagues, we’re an organisation that’s going places.

We are now looking for several enthusiastic and energetic temporary Grounds and Gardening team members, passionate about providing support to our estates in London, to join our expanding team on 3 to 6 month contracts, in particular in Hackney, Islington, Tower Hamlets and Southwark. 

The role includes:

  • Generally, tidy the garden areas, mowing and strimming lawns and grass areas as needed.
  • Soil cultivation, digging, forking, mulching, watering, raking, weeding, edging, pruning, bed preparation and planting.
  • Tend to flower beds - pruning, dead heading and shrub maintenance
  • The use of mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers and leaf blowers
  • Keeping sheds, outbuildings and areas in which waste is stored clean and tidy

 

Key Skills & Experience:

  • You should have good plant knowledge and practical skills in garden maintenance
  • Understanding of Health and Safety, ensuring standards on site are met
  • You're well-presented, self motivated and dependable with a positive ‘can do’ attitude to your work and the ability to work unsupervised
  • You’re comfortable working in a community environment and have good communication skills
  • Physically fit as you’ll be on your feet for most of the day.
  • A full UK driving licence and able to travel between other Southern Housing estates
  • IT skills to send and receive emails, attach documents and photos and follow instructions from smartphone apps

A formal horticultural qualification and/or a PA1 and PA6a pesticides certificate, and/or category C1 driving licence would be an advantage.

We are offering a salary of £22,000 per annum pro rata, up to 26 days holiday, pro rata, plus public holidays, training, pension scheme, discount cards, employee referral scheme, cash claim-back on medical treatments and other great benefits.  A uniform and transport will be provided.
