Homeleigh Garden Centre is one of the South West’s largest family run garden centres, catering to a large variety of customers such as gardeners, home makers, anglers and pets. The business was first established as a small farm in 1977 by Derek & Enis Broad. Derek and Enis still oversee the running of the garden centre with the help of their son Rob. The garden centre is going from strength to strength, with now over 40 departments. The site has got a real family atmosphere and with over 80 staff, the Homeleigh Garden Centre family seems to be growing all the time!
You will support the Managing Director in overseeing complete operational management. You will require a full detailed working knowledge of retail operations and management of a large team. As General Manager you will ensure the store is running successfully and efficiently with staff maintaining a high level of customer service and reviewing the financial side of the store.
The key duties of the role will include:
- Managing the day-to-day running of the centre;
- Ensuring sales targets are reached whilst maximising profitability and commercial opportunities;
- Dealing with customer service issues such as queries and complaints;
- Supervising departmental managers and organising training;
- Organising rotas and holidays;
- Overseeing stock control.
As a person you will be able to be organised and commercial in your approach whilst combining tenacity to manage the team and site effectively. You will also be at ease in a family business, providing effective change management and optimising opportunities. Whilst a management background in this sector is essential, of more importance is your underlying skill set, commercial awareness and approach.
