The beautiful Kenwood estate consists primarily of 112 acres of grass and woodland. It has two ponds and almost 6000 trees. It is classified as a site of special scientific interest. It has a Humphry Repton historic landscape. We are seeking an exceptional Head Gardener to lead the next phase of the conservation and community engagement at Kenwood.
If you are passionate about maintaining and developing historic landscapes, engaging with local people and thrive whilst leading a team working in a busy environment, this may be the role for you.
It is open to the public 365 days a year. The estate is a Gentleman's park that attracts over a million visitors each year. At the heart of the estate is an 18th century mansion which houses a globally significant art collection.
You will lead the gardeners and contractors to ensure the highest standards of presentation and safety, and you will lead on historic restoration of the landscape. The local people are consulted via the Kenwood Landscape Forum which the Head Gardener is responsible for managing on behalf of, and with the support of the General Manager
You will need to be highly motivated to ensure that the estate is maintained in a safe and highly presentable condition, able to manage budgets and contractors, and you will have excellent inter personal and communication skills for effective partnership and community engagement.
