JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Department:                   External Sales Job Title:               Assistant Plant Area Manager Reporting to:                   Department Manager

We have an exciting new opportunity to be a key part of our successful plant area team.

Working in our busy plant area department, you will play an active part in the day to day running of the department. As well as providing our customers with an excellent level of service using your previous sales experience, a good working knowledge of plants and your outgoing personality, you will also be responsible for maintaining the plants under your care, liaising with suppliers, pricing and checking stock and the merchandising of displays. As assistant manager you will deputise for the department manager during days off and holiday which will require you, among many other tasks, to manage other staff, prioritise the days workload, place orders with suppliers and ensure that the department is ready to trade at all times.

The successful candidate will probably already be working in a junior supervisory role and would be looking to progress to a more senior management position.

          DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To deputise for the Department Manager and ensure that high retail standards and customer service levels are being maintained at all times.

To maximise sales. To determine customer’s needs, offer information and advice and to link sell where appropriate.

  1. a)

To assist the Department Manager at all times in building and maintaining the confidence and cooperation of the staff, to ensure good working relationships within the team.

  1. b)

To assist the Department Manager in all areas of stock management, including housekeeping, merchandising, ticketing, stock control, and adherence to all current and future legislative guidelines as required.

To be able to carry out departmental paperwork as requested.

  1.  

To offer a prompt, warm and friendly greeting and to look after customers in a pleasant manner.

To ensure all your team are totally customer focussed.

  1.  

To ensure product availability and maintain store displays to a high standard.

  1.  

To build up an excellent product knowledge within a merchandise group in order to be able to assist a customer from opening to closing a sale.

To complete a sale using point of sale terminals and following sales procedures as instructed.

To maintain a thorough knowledge of all procedures relating to transactions and to carry these procedures out accurately and efficiently.

To deal with telephone enquiries and relay messages accurately.

To be able to deal with customer complaints in a positive and sympathetic manner.

To ensure a satisfactory standard of staff dress and grooming in line with Company guidelines.

To ensure punctuality at all times.

  1.  

To pack/unpack merchandise carefully, checking quantities etc.

  1.  

Ensure all goods are correctly priced, coded and dated.

  1.  

Display goods in an attractive manner and where necessary in date order replenishing as necessary from warehouse/stockroom etc.

Advise Department Manager of any faulty/damaged goods and to raise correct paperwork for head office/suppliers.

To ensure all ticketing and point of sale material is in place and current.

To ensure the cleanliness, presentation and tidiness of stock in morning and throughout day.

Any other duties as required.

To be vigilant on the shop floor and to be aware of suspicious movements.

To follow the ‘service is security’ policy.

Ensure company security policies are adhered to at all times and that the premises are always left secure.

Fulfil supervisory responsibilities when necessary in other Garden Centre areas.

  1. k)

To provide staff to assist on the main tills when necessary during busy periods.

Be proactive in developing the skills and knowledge within the team

To act as a sponsor to new staff and/or work experience pupils.

Use available resources efficiently and effectively.
