About the role
A garden where the spirit of the plant hunters lives on in breathtaking spring displays of magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias. Trengwainton Garden is a magical place to visit at any time of year – so imagine what it’s like working here as a Garden Supervisor. Green-fingered and hands-on, you’ll make sure that all gardens and grounds are beautifully presented and maintained to the highest professional horticultural standards. Day-to-day, you’ll help to recruit, manage and mentor our garden volunteers and other members of staff, whilst making sure that plant records and historical information is always up-to-date. It’ll also be your job to care for the garden’s tools and equipment and ensure we’re using resources such as water and power wisely. Meanwhile, you’ll also share your love of this incredible place with visitors, telling them all about its fascinating past.
You’ll be required to work 37.5 hours per week, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
Firstly, you’ll share our love for fantastic places like Trengwainton Garden – and you’ll enjoy sharing its story with visitors and supporters of all ages and backgrounds. As well as your practical gardening/horticulture experience, you’ll have a National Diploma in Horticulture or NVQ Level 2 and 3 (or an equivalent qualification). You’ll also have a basic chainsaw qualification and PA 1 and 6 spraying certificates, along with a full driving licence. As you’ll be speaking to visitors and leading a team of staff and volunteers, we would like you to have great communication skills and you’ll feel comfortable working with a wide range of people.
Do great things for us and we’ll do great things for you and your career. We’ll give you all the training, support and continued professional development you need, and we appreciate that work/life balance is important. You can also look forward to free admission to all our incredible places, and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here.
There’s no other organisation like the National Trust. No other organisation that brings such an incredible array of places and spaces to life. No other organisation with such an extraordinary wealth of talent, expertise and insight. Today, we’re helping more and more people to enjoy unforgettable adventures and fantastic days out at our amazing places across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
